Christian Pulisic – Achieving the Impossible

Updated: Jun 9, 2021

It’s been great couple of weeks for Christian Pulisic. He has been a tremendous help to Chelsea in the Champions League and in other club matches.

Most notably for me, was his impact in the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.

Pulisic Helps Chelsea Advance to the Final

He scored the only goal for Chelsea in the first leg in a 1-1 draw. He then had a critical assist in the second leg to make it 2-0 for Chelsea.

This helped them to advance to the Champions League final for the first time in almost 10 years. The last time Chelsea made it to the Champions League final was in 2012 against Bayern Munich.

Pulisic played a critical role in helping them get there, and he has been in great form recently. Assuming he gets some minutes in the final match, he would be the first American soccer player to play in a Champions League final.

What an awesome accomplishment!

In both the goal and the assist, he demonstrated great composure in front of the goal.

My Take On Pulisic

Pulisic has always been a tricky player for me to read. I don’t quite know what he is going to do next. I think that’s one of the advantages of his game.

He is quicker, faster, and smarter than the opponents think. This allows him to dribble past people, make penetrating runs, and score goals and assists.

He continues to surprise me with his skill and performance at the highest level and he continues to make a big impact for his club and country.

I keep thinking that it’s just luck, but he has demonstrated time and time again that it is not. He continues to build on his impressive run at Borussia Dortmund while achieving new milestones at Chelsea.

The Champions League Final

Chelsea won the 2021 Champions League final 1-0 against Manchester City.

Pulisic didn't start the match. He came on in the 65th minute as a substitute for Timo Werner. With that substitution he became the first American soccer player to play in AND win a Champions League final.

He continues to make history!

A few minutes after he subbed into the game, he almost scored. Watch the video below to see how close he was to scoring in a Champions League final.

It would have been sensational if he had scored this goal.

CONCACAF Nations League Final

A few weeks later, Pulisic helped the US Men's National team win the CONCACAF Nations League Final 3-2 against Mexico.

It was an instant classic and just what you would expect from the US/Mexico rivalry.

The game went into overtime and Pulisic won and converted a penalty kick to win the game. The penalty was pure class and brilliantly put into the top shelf.

With high stakes and the game on the line, Pulisic did not disappoint.

Check out the goal below!

What makes Pulisic a great player?

I think it’s his ability to believe in himself, to work hard, and to play to his strengths. He knows what he is capable of and he doesn’t hold back.

  • How can you apply this to your game?

  • Are there ways you can increase your confidence/mental toughness?

  • How can you trust more in your unique abilities?

The only limits we have are the ones in our own mind. The ones that we impose on ourselves. We can achieve the impossible if we set our minds to it and work for it in faith.

Keep practicing. You never know what you might achieve!
